WebMargaret was the daughter of Henry Clifford, Earl of Cumberland and his wife Eleanor Brandon, and was born in 1540, probably at Skipton Castle in North Yorkshire. Eleanor, the younger daughter of Mary Tudor, is a shadowy figure. Only one of her letters survives, in which she addressed her husband as ‘dear heart’ and ‘your assured loving wife’.
